AMSCA provides three scholarships:

  • AMSCA Endowment for Scholarly Activity
    The AMSCA Endowment for Scholarly Activity was established to support clinical research and or special projects undertaken by active duty, USAR, ARNG, and retired or former Specialist Corps (SP) officers at the AMSCA general meeting in 2001. The award range is $100-2000.
  • The Nanny Rudd Evans Endowment
    The Nannie Rudd Evans Endowment was established in 2013, with an endowment given by Mrs. Charlotte Evans Floyd, sister of Nannie Evans, from the estate of COL Nannie Evans. The recipient must be a dietitian, active duty, USAR, ARNG, retired or former AMSC officer. This endowment is to support clinical research, education and or special projects undertaken by the dietitian. The award range is $100-2000.
  • AMSCA Family Grant Program
    The AMSCA Family Grant Program is designed for the members of the Army Medical Specialist Corps Association, their families, and their extended families to the second generation. The AMSCA Family Grant provides funds (up to $500) to support eligible college students.

For the AMSCA Endowment for Scholarly Activity and the Nanny Ruddy Evans Endowment, the application procedure is the same and the dietitian applicant will automatically be considered for either the AMSCA Endowment for Scholarly Activities or the Nannie Rudd Evans Endowment. 

Application procedures for all three scholarships are described below.

Application Process for the (1) AMSCA Endowment for Scholarly Activity and (2) Nanny Ruddy Evans Endowment

The application process is the same for both. You do not need to specify which scholarship if you are a dietitian, as you are eligible for either of the endowments. AMSCA sends a letter to members annually with submission information and deadlines.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION each year is March 15th (for both scholarships)

Apply any time of the year.  However, the deadline for each year's scholarships is Mar 15th, and selections are announced in May or June.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Any active duty, USAR, retired or former Specialist Corps (SP) officers.

Criteria for Award

For Research Proposals

  1. Purpose of the project: meaningful for professional practice and/or patient care within the AMEDD
  2. Hypothesis: Clearly stated and pertinent to the project purpose
  3. Variables clearly stated and defined
  4. Methodology Proposed
  5. Budget: Budget is realistic for the project, enough to enable the project to be accomplished, but not excessive. Include other possible funding sources.
  6. Feasibility

For Continuing Education Proposals

  1. Educational activity purpose or need.
  2. Site for proposed educational activity.
  3. Budget: Budget proposed is realistic and enough to enable the activity to be accomplished, but not excessive; other possible funding sources considered and/or some cost paid for personally.
  4. Feasibility: The proposed project is feasible, i.e., can be successfully completed within the timeframe indicated.

For Special Projects, Publications, or Other

  1. Activity Purpose: Purpose of the project clearly stated; purpose meaningful for furthering professional practice and/or patient care within the AMEDD.
  2. Activity Need: Proposal reflects an unmet need of the AMEDD; the need is clearly stated.
  3. Budget: Budget proposed is realistic for the proposed activity
  4. Feasibility: The proposed activity is feasible, i.e., can be successfully completed within the timeframe indicated.

AMSCA Family Grant Program Application Process

In 2017, the Army Medical Specialist Corps Association’s Board of Directors approved the establishment of a new educational grant program designed for the members of the Army Medical Specialist Corps Association, their families, and their extended families to the second generation. The AMSCA Family Grant provides funds (up to $500) to support eligible college students.  AMSCA sends a letter to members annually with submission information and deadlines.

Eligibility & Criteria for the Family Grant Program

  • Eligible recipients are AMSCA members, their spouse, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews (extended families to the second generation).
  • Students must have completed two years of undergraduate school OR are participating in a graduate school program before applying for the grant.

The student may use the grant as needed for their personal use while a student (examples could include books, rent, food costs, etc.).

Application Process

  1. The AMSCA member will initiate the application (download the Family Grant brochure for full details).
  2. The AMSCA member will also provide a written recommendation for the proposed recipient of the AMSCA Family Grant. The recommendation will also include:
    • The applicant’s relationship to the member
    • The type of degree sought, and the number semester hours successfully completed so far
  3. In addition, the proposed recipient/student will submit an essay describing their educational goals and a description of his/her financial needs.

Submission Timeline
You may submit applications throughout the year. Applications received by Nov 1st will be considered for the Spring Semester; applications received by May 1st will be considered by the Fall Semester.

Funds for of this scholarship come from the funds and donations provided by the membership. Annual costs for this scholarship are included in the annual budget.
