AMSCA was proud to award LTC (ret) Vicky L. Thomas with the Colonel Emma E. Vogel Award during the awards dinner at the 2024 meeting. This award is given for outstanding and distinguished service to the Army Medical Specialist Corps Association. Vicky has been a member of AMSCA for 21 years, having joined in 2002 just months prior to her retirement from the Army in 2003. Vicky served on active duty as a dietitian from 1982-2003. During her career, she served at several Army hospitals as the Chief of the Nutrition Care Division. She was course director for the Army’s first Conference on Nutrition Care in Operations Other Than War, was a Clinical Instructor at the US Army Dietetic Internship at BAMC, an assignments officer at PERSCOM, and Nutrition Staff Officer at the Ofc of the Army Surgeon General. She served as an Accreditation Site Reviewer with the Commission on Dietetics Education, is a published author of several research papers, and spoke at an annual meeting of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on the topic of "Communicating the Value of Nutrition Therapy to Medical Executives".
Vicky’s goal in becoming a member of AMSCA in 2002 was to serve the association and to stay in touch with her family of military friends. Her wealth of interests and skills led her to convince the AMSCA board in 2006 to develop and implement a website. By 2008, Vicky designed and implemented the website for AMSCA. In 2016, she added online membership management so members could electronically join and renew memberships. In 2023, she transitioned the association's information to a new website platform and implemented our first online meeting registration. In addition to being the webmaster since 2008, Vicky also served as the Membership Chair for AMSCA from 2019-2022.
Using her unique skills, knowledge, and selfless dedication during her 15 years as webmaster for AMSCA, Vicky has provided well over 1,000 hours of professional web design, management, and consulting services at no charge to AMSCA. Vicky’s leadership, dedication and vision has taken AMSCA to new levels of service to its members. Thank you Vicky for your years of outstanding service!
